Two things interested me when I started the search for WX671 Charles Austin Crowe. The first was the low service number meaning that Charles enlisted very early for WWII. In this case it was on 10 November 1939. Secondly was that Charles was born in New York, USA.
I found quite a bit of information about Charles that originated out of the US but eventually noticed an acknowledgement to a Beryl S from Thornlie in WA who had provided much of the detail.
It took and bit to work out who Beryl was and her relationship to Charles. In the long run Beryl turned out to be Charles niece.
Thanks to Wayne of the Applecross RSL who sent the medal to me last week.
The returned medal tally is now 1869.
